How to maintain balance | BEnergyAware Podcast episode #122 transcript

Maintaining balance is not easy. It takes a lot of trial and error to finally be able to establish balance in our life, and then keep it.

It comes down to not only how much we do, but also how we do whatever we are doing on any given day. If we have a few days in a row that are out of balance, our week can go sideways.

Knowing our limits is one thing, and then monitoring and observing ourselves are totally different things altogether.

And again, it’s not completely about not doing. We could be taking timely rest and the time to sit still and not do, but if we’re sitting still and tormenting ourselves internally then we haven’t really done a good thing for ourselves.

It really is as much about balancing out our thoughts and emotions as much it is about how much we do, and also what we do.

We need to know what any kind of activity does for us and how much of it is healthy for us. We need to monitor our thoughts and emotions, especially during times when we are not doing much.

Then there is also monitoring our thoughts during activities that might not be so pleasing or enjoyable. Again, we need to know what those are for us. And perhaps, bring them down to a minimum.

I personally find that when I’m engaged in an activity that is more aligned with my highest values, I tend to be way more productive, present, inspired and energized, and I do not get tired as easily as when I do something that is much lower on my value list.

I think our health really depends on how we choose to spend our time.

People who love what they do and do what they love, tend to be in good health.
